What are you suggesting?

Lisa and I love finding movies, CDs and books to buy for the teen collections. While we try to keep a look out for new and interesting titles, sometimes we miss things. So if you notice we're missing something that you think the library should own, make a suggestion!  You can fill out the online form here, fill out a "Suggestion for Purchase" card scattered throughout the library, or mention it to one of us at the desk. You can ask for a specific title or something general, like "More books about ____, please!". It's your collection, so exercise your voice and tell us what's what, nicely, of course.

For the Win!

Here's a great opportunity to get advance copies of Cory Doctorow's new book for young adults,For the Win, way before it's due out in in May. The author and his publisher are looking for young reviewers, so if you're under 19, you can request a copy. Only 200 are available, so act fast!: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/11/200-free-copies-of-m-1.html
Doctorow's first book for teens was Little Brother, one of my faves of 2008.

Just a few words

Favorite things: studying, quiet-time, chores -- weird?

Could you write your life story in six words? I Can't Keep My Own Secrets has collected six-word memoirs from 800 teens. From the funny ("I never got my Hogwarts letter." - Deanna H.), to the heartbreaking ("Always listening, but never really heard." - Agnes T.), to the inspirational ("Follow your dreams. Not your parents." - Srishti K.), this is a great book to browse through or read cover to cover.  You might be inspired to write your own six word memoir.  Feel like sharing? Post yours in the comments!

Test Prep

If you're getting ready for the big tests (ACT, SAT, etc.), then you should check out Learning Express. With your library card, you can prep with some exercises and even take practice exams (with scores and tips!).  Create your own account so that you can go at your own speed and save your progress.  Even if you just want a little self-guided tutoring there are plenty of exercises available. Best of all, it's free!
